Newspapers are falling behind with a monetization strategy predicated on two big assumptions, says digital futurist Amy Webb. First is that people are coming to their sites on purpose. Second is that these same people value the paper’s brand enough and connect it clearly enough with the content they’re consuming to be incentivized to purchase, such as with warnings they get when they hit a paywall.
